Moving forward with her theatrical career, Katie Holmes has reportedly signed on to star in a new thriller flick titled Don't Be Afraid of the Dark". According to Variety reports, the former Dawson Creek" darling nabbed the role - which will begin shooting this summer in Melbourne, Australia. The upcoming film is said to center on a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend. Soon, she discovers they are sharing the house with devilish creatures." Katie's latest role follows the recent filming of The Extra Man," in which she co-stars alongside Kevin Kline.

Following a late night on the set of her new movie, Katie Holmes was spotted out in New York City as she headed back to work on Thursday afternoon (March 5). Prepared for the chilly weather with a navy jacket, jeans and green winter hat, the Dawson's Creek" cutie slowly but surely made her way to join her co-stars on the set of The Extra Man". As previously reported by Gossip Girls, Katie's new comedy is being co-directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, also starring John C. Reilly, Kevin Kline and Paul Dano. Back home with her family in Los Angeles during a break from filming, Katie Holmes enjoyed a romantic dinner date with hubby Tom Cruise on Saturday night (February 28). The Top Gun" stud took his Mad Money" bride to Il Sole restaurant, with Katie looking a bit somber as she and Tom exited the popular eatery following their meal. As previously reported by Gossip Girls, Katie spent the past week working in NYC on her new movie, The Extra Man," a comedy starring Kevin Kline and John C. Reilly. And though it's work, FOX New reports that she actually plays pretty much fourth fiddle, as Kline and Paul Dano are the main characters. Everyone involved says Katie's part is small and requires very little work."
