2012 Billboard Music Awards: The Show, The Winners

With another high profile ceremony having come and gone, the winners from the 2012 Billboard Music Awards were announced on Sunday night (May 20). The Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell hosted event was held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with Adele emerging as the big winner upon taking home a slew of trophies including Top Artist, Top Female Artist and Top Pop Artist. Other entertainers enjoying a successful evening included Justin Bieber as Top Social Artist and Lil Wayne, who nabbed Top Male Artist and Top Rap Artist accolades. Performers taking the stage during the Billboard Music Awards included Carrie Underwood, LMFAO, CeeLo Green, Kelly Clarkson, Usher, The Wanted, Linkin Park, Nelly Furtado and Chris Brown while the late Whitney Houston was feted with the Billboard Millenium Award for her career achievements with her sister, Patty, and daughter, Bobbi Kristina, accepting on her behalf. Gearing up for a fun-filled summer, Kelly Clarkson announced she’ll be touring with The Fray beginning in July. The “I Do Not Hook Up” songstress called in to Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show to share the good news, and begin building the hype. Clarkson took to the stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and shared some sweet words about Etta, who died on Friday as a result of complications from pneumonia. Then the “Mr. Know It All” songstress sang James’ classic song “I’d Rather Go Blind,” much to the delight of the sold-out crowd. But that wasn’t the only cover Kelly nailed during her hit-laden set- she also sang “Fix You” by Coldplay, and “My Man” from “Funny Girl.”

She has always been forthcoming with her opinions, and Kelly Clarkson is a big fan of Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul. The “Since You’ve Been Gone” songstress took to her Twitter page to announce the conservative congressman as her choice for the Oval Office. Kelly tweeted, “I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.” She added, “Ron Paul is about letting people decide, not the government. I am for this. I have never heard that he’s a racist? I definitely don’t agree with racism, that’s ignorant... I love all people and could care less if you like men or women... I have never seen or heard Ron Paul say anything against gay people?” Serving to clarify her position, Kelly explained, “I am really sorry if I have offended anyone. Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all the Republican nominees, he’s my favorite.”
