Johnny Depp Casts "Dark Shadows" on Japan

After a highly anticipated opening day here in America, Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton made their way to Tokyo, Japan for the premiere of “Dark Shadows” on Saturday afternoon (May 12). The 48-year-old actor looked cool and collected in a cowboy-inspired outfit as he attended the event at Roppingi Hills to promote the films Japanese opening on May 19. In other news, the dynamic Depp-Burton duo has come together to make a whopping eight films, which the “Edward Scissorhands” actor says is because, “We relate to characters who are a little off; people who don’t feel like they fit in anywhere. I think that’s why we work well together.” Their newest project opened in theaters yesterday (May 11). It’s based on a 1970s soap opera about an 18th century ladies’ man who becomes a vampire after he breaks a witch’s heart and also stars Chloe Moretz, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter. So far Vanessa has already categorically denied the reports but the actor himself has avoided answering questions on the topic altogether. Last night however he decided to put the rumours to bed once and for all by issuing an angry denial to one journalist. While he was at the London premiere for his new Tim Burton directed film Dark Shadows, the Hollywood star was quizzed by a reported about the subject. He replied: “No way. The rumours are not true. They are absolutely not true.” He sighed and went onto say: “No matter what I say about this, people believe the opposite. Jonathan Frid, Original Dark Shadows Star, Dies at 87

Candian actor Jonathan Frid, star of the original Dark Shadows, has died at the age of 87. He passed away Friday in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario. Frid was best known as the benign vampire Barnabas Collins on ABC's gothic soap opera from 1967-71 and in the 1970 movie House Of Dark Shadows. Jonathan Frid also has a cameo in Warner Bros' upcoming Dark Shadows reboot, directed by the great Tim Burton, as an older version of Barnabas. He meets up with the younger version of himself, played by Johnny Depp. While Frid wasn't in Dark Shadows during its 1966 debut, his elegantly fiendish Barnabas quickly became the star when he joined several months later. After the series ended, Frid returned to theater, performing Edgar Allen Poe, William Shakespeare and a long run on Broadway in Arsenic And Old Lace. A Yale graduate, he appeared in several films including Oliver Stone's 1974 directorial debut Seizure. He attended fan conventions well into old age. You can see him in Dark Shadows with Depp on May 11.

Well, this is embarrassing, isn’t it? You try and do something a bit different and special and then Johnny Depp goes and messes it up for you. In the promo for Macca’s new single, My Valentine, Johnny, along with Natalie Portman are seen making a number of mistakes while trying to sign. First up Nat signs the word tampon rather than appear (oh bloody hell, it couldn’t have been another word could it?) and then Johnny signs enemy while trying to sign valentine (yeah that’s pretty major considering the song is called My Valentine). The video, which is uploaded on YouTube, has a number of comments highlighting where the actors have gone wrong. The British Death Association, on the other hand, is applauding their efforts. A spokesman for them said: “It’s great that famous people such as Johnny Depp and Natalie Portman are highlighting the use of sign language. Their use of it is more a poetic expression. “The sign for tampon does seem to come up from both Johnny and Natalie, which causes some confusion, especially as American and British sign languages are different. “It would have been nice if genuine deaf people had been used. But it’s still great.” Wow that’s a very nice and diplomatic thing to say, if that was us we’d be fuming and we’d tell Macca to f*** off (in sign langauge of course).
