Ready for what ended up being quite the eventful evening, Viola Davis turned up as planned for the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (January 29). The 46-year-old big screen star worked the red carpet at the Shrine Exposition Center venue in a Marchesa frock with Jimmy Choo shoes before hitting the entrance ahead of the annual Tinseltown celebration of cinema. Among the esteemed winners, Miss Davis took home Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Leading Role honors while beating out Michelle Williams, Glenn Close, Meryl Streep and Tilda Swinton. Viola also joined her "The Help" castmates in collecting Best Picture accolades while the night saw Dick Van Dyke present Screen Actors Guild’s 48th Life Achievement Award to Mary Tyler Moore.

Gathering together to honor a few distinct individuals, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences held their 3rd Annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday night (November 12). Held at the Hollywood & Highland Grand Ballroom, the yearly event brought out a long list of stars including John Travolta with wife Kelly Preston, Evan Rachel Wood, Alec Baldwin and Maria Shriver. Flight of Conchords" received nominations for outstanding comedy series while Family Guy" received a nomination for outstanding comedy-which is usually for live action shows.
