65th Cannes Film Festival’s Star-Studded Opening Ceremony

The South of France is a little more fabulous today (May 16), as the 65th Cannes Film Festival held its opening ceremony this afternoon. And there were hordes of famous faces crowding around the Palais des Festivals ahead of the much-loved cinematic event. Actresses like Eva Longoria, Jessica Chastain, Freida Pinto, Jane Fonda, Diane Kruger, and Tilda Swinton were all gussied up and camera-ready as they walked around the arrivals area. Singer Lana Del Rey and supermodel Eva Herzigova also made appearances. Representing the fellas were Alec Baldwin (with fiance Hilaria Thomas), Chris Pine, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Ewan McGregor, and Bill Murray.

“Moonrise Kingdom” Stars Hold Cannes Photocall

Gearing up for the opening premiere of the 65th Cannes Film Festival, Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, and Tilda Swinton were spotted at a photocall for “Moonrise Kingdom” today (May 16). The “Die Hard” stud looked dapper in a black suit, while Ms. Swinton opted for a mauve blouse and grey skirt, and Mr. Murray got colorful in a patchwork jacket with printed shirt and trousers. The film’s director Wes Anderson explained the premise of “Moonrise Kingdom” during a recent interview. “I usually avoid answering that, but I think I would have to say it’s a romance between two 12-year-olds in 1965. To me, that’s the center of it. The truth is I thought I would have this narrator hosting the film. The first paragraph I wrote for him, I just spontaneously wrote, ‘The year is 1965.’ I hadn’t really intended it. It was sort of a spontaneous moment. I do think that the scouts and its Norman Rockwell-type of Americana is sort of part of it. It seems like 1965 is really the end of one kind of America.” He added, “I’ve been thinking about it for quite a while. For probably eight or 10 years I had it vaguely in mind, but I didn’t know what it was likely to evolve into. I spent about a year working on the script, and I didn’t make very good progress. But then I got some help from Roman Coppola, who’s worked with me before. He really helped me sort it out, and then we had the script in a month, and six weeks later it was completely finished. It started with the idea of a romance between two 12-year-olds, and a lot of the story would take place among children and not really involve the adults. The adult characters sort of came later.”

It was the Time 100 Gala in NY last night (celebrating that list thing they do every year) and just about anybody who is anybody was there. Including; Claire Danes, Tilda Swinton, Babara Walters, Tyra Banks and of course Rihanna who chose last night of all nights to comment on those Ashton Kutcher rumours. Well, sort of anyway. At the end of the evening the singer Tweeted: ‘Well.... 2nt consisted of us singing Bob Marley, drinkin Vintage Scotch, and my mom thinkin a joke abt Kutcher was appropriate!#Thxtime100’ What kind of joke we wonder, and why would it not have been appropriate? What does this mean?! So many questions, so little answers.

Ready for what ended up being quite the eventful evening, Viola Davis turned up as planned for the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (January 29). The 46-year-old big screen star worked the red carpet at the Shrine Exposition Center venue in a Marchesa frock with Jimmy Choo shoes before hitting the entrance ahead of the annual Tinseltown celebration of cinema. Among the esteemed winners, Miss Davis took home Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Leading Role honors while beating out Michelle Williams, Glenn Close, Meryl Streep and Tilda Swinton. Viola also joined her "The Help" castmates in collecting Best Picture accolades while the night saw Dick Van Dyke present Screen Actors Guild’s 48th Life Achievement Award to Mary Tyler Moore.

Gathering together to honor a few distinct individuals, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences held their 3rd Annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday night (November 12). Held at the Hollywood & Highland Grand Ballroom, the yearly event brought out a long list of stars including John Travolta with wife Kelly Preston, Evan Rachel Wood, Alec Baldwin and Maria Shriver.
